A Bit About Me
DR. JAN ADAMS DABU MAGTANONG achieved his Bachelor of Secondary Education majoring in English (Magna Cum Laude), Master of Arts in Language Education, and Doctor of Education (With Distinction) from Bataan Peninsula State University. He is the youngest doctoral graduate and the first to graduate with honors from the university's graduate school.
During his tenure as a student, he served as the Editor-in-Chief of Malasimbo, the official student publication of BPSU-Dinalupihan. He was the regional champion in News Writing and the national champion in Feature Writing. He also received numerous accolades, including recognition as the News Story Writer of the Year, Feature Story Writer of the Year, and Opinion Journalist of the Year at the National Media Conference 2014. In 2015, he was honored as one of the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines – Central Luzon, the sole awardee from BPSU-Dinalupihan, and received the Gawad Talinong Dinalupiheño.
Joining Magsaysay National High School in 2016 as a Teacher I, Dr. Magtanong swiftly rose through the ranks, achieving promotion to Teacher III in 2019 and Head Teacher III in 2021, marking him as the youngest Head Teacher in the Department of Education. His educational contributions garnered him several awards, including Dakilang Guro, District Outstanding Teacher, District Outstanding Head Teacher, Division Outstanding Head Teacher, and International Outstanding Educator. In the field of research and innovation, he was honored with the Gawad Magsaysay Outstanding Department Head and won 1st Place as Best Research Presenter at the 2023 International Media Research Conference in Zamboanga City. In 2020, he was recognized as the Outstanding School Paper Adviser of the Philippines during the National Schools Press Conference (NSPC), solidifying his reputation as a leader in education.
Furthermore, he represented the Philippines in the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) in Bangkok, Thailand. Continuing his pursuit of excellence, he completed a Masterclass in Leadership and Instructional Design from Arizona State University in 2021 and earned a Specialist Certificate for Professional Development from the SEAMEO Regional Language Center in Singapore in 2022.
A passionate advocate for Indigenous Peoples' education, Dr. Magtanong founded the HOPE Project, earning him the Outstanding Volunteer Award from the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) Region III. He is also a children's storybook author, with accolades including recognition as one of the best children's storybook writers in Bataan. He is the author of "Ang Paboritong Araw ni Malaya," a heartwarming tale published by Vibal.
