DR. JOHN DEN SAUL L. DALAN

A Bit About Me

Dr. John Den Saul L. Dalan is a faculty member in the Basic Education Department at Columban College Inc. in Olongapo City, holding a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education with a major in English from Columban College Inc. He is also a licensed professional teacher. Dr. Dalan completed his graduate studies, earning a Master of Arts in Education with a specialization in English Language Teaching in 2020. He furthered his academic journey by obtaining a Doctorate in Education with a focus on Educational Administration in 2022, both at Columban College, Inc. Currently, he is pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Language Education at President Ramon Magsaysay State University.

Throughout his career, Dr. Dalan has taught various English subjects from elementary to junior high school levels, including English for Academic and Professional Purposes and Oral Communication in Context at the Senior High School level. Presently, he teaches Practical Research and Inquiries, Investigations, and Immersion for Grade 12 students.

Dr. Dalan has held several key roles within the educational institution, serving as the subject area coordinator for the English Department from June 2020 to May 2023, and as the school paper adviser for the Elementary and Junior High School from June 2017 to May 2022. He also served as the Module Coordinator for the Elementary and Junior High School levels from June 2020 to May 2021. Additionally, he has been actively involved in coaching students for various school, division, and national competitions, including Division of School Press Conference (DSCP), School Paper Adviser’s Movement (SPAM), Private Secondary School Administrators’ Association (PRISSAA), and APPEAR-Olongapo. Currently, he serves as the Research Coordinator for the Basic Education Department and external panel member of the Graduate School for Professional Advancement and Continuing Education (G-SPACE).

In addition to his teaching and mid-administrative roles, Dr. Dalan has authored modules for English in Grades 3, 4, 5, and 6, which are utilized by several DIEFE schools. He also published his first research article in the Philippine Association for Teachers and Educators Inc. (PAFTE) Journal.

Dr. Dalan is an active member of professional organizations such as the Philippine Association for Teachers and Educators Inc. (PAFTE), Asian Association for Academic Integrity (AAAI), Asian Society of Teachers for Research (ASTR), and International Association of Research Scholars and Educators, Inc. (IARSEI). He serves as a peer-reviewer and editorial board member for Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal and West Science Social and Humanities Studies (WSSHS).

Beyond his academic pursuits, Dr. Dalan actively engages in community outreach activities, participating in the Columban Day Feeding and Gift Giving Program, Christmas gift-giving initiatives, Alay Kapwa gift-giving, and the Caritas community pantry. He has also received numerous awards and recognition for his contributions to research and academia, including being acknowledged as an Outstanding Scientific Committee Member for Psychology and Education: A Multidisciplinary Journal and receiving the Outstanding Filipino Research Leader award at the 3rd Asian Conference on Educational Development (ACED) in 2023. Additionally, he has been recognized as the Best Oral Research Presenter at various conferences, including the 3rd ACED and the 2nd Asian Conference on Multidisciplinary Research 2023 (ACMR). He also received the Community Involvement Award at the 2nd ACMR and achieved 4th Place in News Writing (Advisers Category) at the 13th National Campus Media Conference in 2019.

Recently, Dr. Dalan was honored with the Best Oral Research Presenter award and recognized as an Outstanding Individual Member at the 2nd International Conference on Higher Education Research hosted by the Philippine Association of Institutions for Research, Inc. (PAIR), and the Association of Scholarly Editors (ASE).
